It wasn't that long ago
You laid beside me
We talked all through the night
You stole my hat and ruffled my hair
And I stole it back, pouting
And you would pout and laugh
And say that I was adorable
And I was beautiful to you
I would blush slightly and hold you hand
And say that you were the beautiful one
You would flash a dazzling smile that made my heart melt
And give my hand a thanking squeeze


But now, I lie awake
I look, but you're not there
To keep the dark away
To hold my hand
I close my eyes, and there you lay
You crack a small smile
Wrap an arm around my waist
And pull me close
I lean in slightly
To brush my lips on yours
I open my eyes
But you're not there.

There were times
I would lie in you bed
When I couldn't sleep
When the world was too much
You would comfort me, we would talk
Just about stuff
And you would adjust your silly had
That would steal and mess up your hair
And you take back what was yours
And pout
And I would laugh at that
Say that you were beautiful
You'd blush and hold my hand
Say I  was the beautiful one
I give you hand a thanking squeeze


But now, I still can't sleep
And the nightmares have returned
My hand is cold
Maybe if I close my eyes, you'll return
And there you are
Smiling small
I wrap my arm around you waist
You lean in slightly
I wait for that kiss
Open my eyes
But you're not there.
