Infernal Devices Shoes

This is my entry to Cassandra Clare's contest; a pair of infernal devices and steampunk inspired shoes!

On the left shoe is the rune for Love. Love is a main theme of Clockwork Angel and the ID series. You have the main love triangle between Jem, Tessa, and Will, but them you also have the love between Charlotte and Henry, the unreturned love Henry had for Sophie, the love Jessamine so desperately seeks and Tessa's love for her brother. I suppose each Shadowhunter has a love for each other (even if they don't show it), I suppose brotherhood is a form of love. On the back of the shoe is a key, symbolic of the key to ones heart. Written on the edge of the shoe is the phrase "Amor verus numquam moritur" which translates from latin to "true love never dies". The phrase is inscribed on Lady Belcourt's necklace.

The right shoe has the rune for Clairvoyant Sight. Shadowhunters get these runes on their hands. The rune gives them the power to see what is hidden, the Downworld. Tess does not know of the Downworld prior to going to London. This trip is her own rune, and her eyes are opened to this mysterious world. This also continues with the theme of secrets. Tessa's parents and brother kept secrets. Everyone has their secrets, in the infernal devices series. Mystery is another huge element.
The little clock represents time ticking away to reveal these secrets. Something is afoot, clockwork men and the magister, and time is ticking for one of our characters, as well.
The phrase on this shoe is "Pulvis et umbra sumus", quoted by Will, which translates to "we are but dust and shadow".
