"I don't love you," she said. "I've tried, and I've tried. But even I can't force my self to love someone I don't." She was silent.
"Understand. You know that I can't love."
She turned to me one last time, red eyes glimmering beneath her bangs. She opened the door, threw up her hood, and left.
I didn't run after her crying, "Lei! Lei!"
I had already done that.
She couldn't love.
Or she couldn't love me?
She loved Elle, loved her so much. She said that was because she and Elle had been through everything together.
Everyone loved Elle. She was just so perfect, she was so magical and beautiful and amazing. And at one time, even I loved Elle.
Lei made sure to rub that in my face.
"You say you can't love, but what about Elle?!"
"What about Elle, Roy? Out of all people, I thought you'd understand."
"I do understand, Lei--"
"And you do you think you are, bringing her up? I know about you two, the whole freaking world knows about you, even Al!"
I was silent.
"Elle's a whore."
"HOW DARE YOU!!"
A string of syllables came out of her mouth and all the pillows and boxes flew straight at me.
A single word from my lips and they all froze, mid flight and fell to the ground.
"But Elle--"
"So this is all Elle's fault then? You shouldn't be talking, Roy! You killed me, Roy! And let me tell you something"
She marched right up to me and got all in my face.
"I did love you. So much."
She left.
And there I was, chasing her in the dead of night, in the dead of winter.
She took me back, but things were never the same.
